Cookies

Three cookies, and what each one is for.

One is set by this site and does a job you asked for. Two belong to Google Analytics, and those are written only if you accept them. There is no advertising network here and nothing that follows you to another site.

Fixed price, in writing

Want one fitted to your process?

Tell us what you run today. You get a written scope and a fixed price back, not a discovery retainer.

Enquiry received

That is with us.

It goes to an engineer who writes the code, not a sales rep. You get a reply within one business day.

  1. 1We read it against what you run today
  2. 2You get a written scope and a fixed price
  3. 3You decide. The scope is yours either way

What is stored

The complete list, not a representative sample.

csrfIssued only when you open the contact form. It proves the submission came from this site and not from somewhere pretending to be it.Strictly necessary, first partyThe browser session
_gaGoogle Analytics. A random identifier that lets us count a returning reader as one person rather than two. It carries no name, email or anything you typed.Analytics, third party, only if you acceptTwo years
_ga_MCEHYMWNELGoogle Analytics. Keeps the state of the current visit so a session is measured once rather than restarting on every page.Analytics, third party, only if you acceptTwo years

The first is set by buyowncode.com and never leaves it. The two analytics cookies are set by Google on our behalf and hold a random identifier, not a name. We use Analytics to see which pages and which applications people actually open, and for nothing else: no advertising, no remarketing and no sharing with other Google products.

Consent, and where we stand on it

Analytics cookies are the kind that require consent, and we would rather say so plainly than argue the point.

The form token is strictly necessary, and under UK and EU rules a strictly necessary cookie does not need consent. The two analytics cookies are a different matter: they are not necessary for the site to work, so in the UK and EU they are consented cookies.

So a prompt appears on your first visit and nothing from Google loads until you accept it. Decline and the script is never fetched at all, which means the two analytics cookies are never written rather than written and then ignored.

You can change your mind in either direction with the button at the foot of every page. Withdrawing consent deletes the two analytics cookies as well as stopping any further ones. Your answer is kept in your browser, not in a cookie, and we ask again after six months.

We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, remarketing or audience building, and we have not linked it to any Google advertising product.

Storage that is not a cookie

Worth naming, because people reasonably lump these together.

Local storage in the previews

A demo application remembers which role you last viewed, so moving between screens does not reset you. It stays in your browser, never reaches us, and clearing site data removes it.

Server logs

Requests are logged with an IP address, timestamp and user agent for security and diagnostics, and discarded on a rolling basis. That is a log, not a cookie, and it is not joined to anything about you.

Fonts and images

Every font and image is served from this domain. The only third-party request a page can make is the Analytics script, and that one happens only after you accept.

Embedded content

None beyond Google Analytics. No video player, no chat widget, no social embed and no advertising pixel.

Turning them off

Yours to refuse or remove, with different consequences.

  • The Cookie choice link in the footer withdraws analytics consent and deletes those cookies
  • Any browser can also block or delete cookies for this site in its privacy settings
  • Removing the security token stops the contact form from submitting; it cannot work without it
  • Blocking the analytics cookies costs you nothing: every page works exactly the same
  • Nothing else on the site depends on a cookie, so everything else behaves identically
  • Browsing in a private window achieves the same thing without changing your settings

The same reasoning applies to your data.

The privacy notice covers what we hold, why, for how long, and how to have it removed. It is about as short as an honest one can be.

  • No sign-up to open one
  • One-time price, no seats
  • Source code transferred on delivery
