Thursday 3 September
Unfilled
Unfilled hours are shown on Monday, when something can still be done, rather than being discovered on Saturday at five.
Skills matrix
In progress
The matrix drives the booking app directly. Otto cannot be booked for a restyle until the fifth supervised one is signed off, which is the point of recording it.
This month
Chair economics
$7,240 takings against $3,890 of chair cost including commission, product and floor share.
Shown per chair because that is the number that decides whether to hire a fifth stylist.

Your rebook rate
32 of 47 clients booked their next visit at the desk.
Salon average is 61%. You can see your own numbers and the salon average, not other stylists’ individual figures.

Breaks are paid and are on the rota rather than taken when it goes quiet. A break that depends on the shop being empty is a break that does not happen.
A swap needs the other person to agree and a manager to see it, not to approve it. Two adults arranging their own week does not need permission.
The reason is optional and nobody will chase it. Requiring one for a shift six days away teaches people to invent reasons, or to say nothing until the morning.
Requests
Twelve days left and seven months to take them. The reminder comes in November rather than in March, because a January reminder is a scramble.
Tell us as early as you can. Nobody needs a reason and nobody will ask what is wrong.
You get sick pay from day one. Waiting three days is a policy that sends people to work ill, which costs more than the three days ever saved.
Shown before payday rather than after. Finding an error in the week it happened is far easier than finding it four weeks later.
Queries are answered within three working days and the correction is paid in the next run rather than the one after. An underpayment is somebody rent.
Paid for and paid time
No clawback clause. Training somebody and then billing them for it if they leave is a way of trapping people, and it is why they leave.
Three weeks of rota is the whole point. It is how somebody books a dentist, agrees to a wedding or arranges childcare, and it is the single thing most retail staff say they want.
Messages are not read outside your hours and nobody expects a reply on a day off. A work app that pings on a Sunday is a work app people turn off.
Before publishing
The third check has failed for one person. Closing Thursday at 19:30 and opening Friday at 08:00 is twelve and a half hours, and the rota will not publish until it is fixed.
Saturday is two people short and it is the busiest day. Asking on Monday gets volunteers; asking on Friday gets nobody and a bad Saturday.
This month
Training shows as a cost because it is one. It is the line most likely to be cut in a bad month and the one that costs most to cut.
Four months since a conversation that is meant to happen quarterly. It is the cheapest thing on this screen and the first thing to slip.
The last one is off by default. Being offered extra shifts every week is pressure dressed as opportunity.
